Group Rides

A description of weekly group rides in north San Diego County

No regular group rides on Monday or Friday.

On Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 6:30 the Swami's have a ride from NW corner of La Costa and El Camino Real, Carlsbad. Visit here for details and map.

On Tuesday Evening there is the Tuesday Night El Camino Bike Shop Ride. This 28 mile hammerfest burns through Rancho Santa Fe, Fairbanks Ranch, Solana Beach, and then back to Encinitas. It is active during daylight savings time and departs at 5:00PM from the El Camino Bike Shop (NE corner of El Camino Real and Encinitas Blvd - 121 N. El Camino Real, Encinitas, CA) which is tucked back in the large parking lot across from Trader Joe's.

On Wednesday morning, there is a flat and fast ride (basically the same as our Saturday Camp Pendleton ride), but leaving from Starbucks on PCH in Carlsbad Village at 8:15. 50 miles. The Pendleton ride has been described as one of the hardest flat rides you can do. So bring your A game and bring your CAMP PENDLETON BASE ID - you must have this special ID to get onto the base.

On Thursday nights, there is a gravel ride at 5:30pm that leaves Rouleur Brewing in Carlsbad. 5840 El Camino Real #101, Carlsbad, CA 92008

On Saturday, Celo Pacific has four main routes for group rides. We alternate between "Coastal Camp Pendelton", "Circle R", "Elfin Forest", and "Sleeping Indian". See the calendar of upcoming events on the news page of this club website for the schedule. The description of these 4 routes is below:

The Celo Pacific Inland Circle R Ride. RideWithGPS link - Rolling out at 8:30AM.  Meet in the parking lot near Grand Ave & Roosevelt St in Carlsbad.  South along the coast to Palomar Airport Rd.  Inland on Palomar Airport Rd, which turns into San Marcos Blvd, to Discovery St. (just past San Marcos High School).  Right on Discovery St and bear to the left when Discovery St. comes to a “Y” with La Sombra Dr.  East on Discovery St to Cravens Rd.  Right on Cravens Rd. to Twin Oaks Valley Rd.  Left to E. Braham Dr. and then right (east) on E. Braham Dr. to Woodland Pkwy.  Left on Woodland Pkwy (under the 78 Fwy) to El Norte Pkwy.  Right a short two blocks to Country Club Lane.  Left on Country Club Lane, and stay on Country Club Lane when it makes a right turn at the entrance to the Escondido Country Club.  East on Country Club Lane (under the I15 Fwy) to Broadway.  Left on Broadway to Jesmond Dean Rd.  Left on Jesmond Dean Rd to Centre City Pkwy.  Right on Centre City Pkwy (north) which turns into Champagne Blvd at Deer Springs Rd.  Continue north on Champagne Blvd, which turns into Old Highway 395 at Gopher Canyon Rd., to a stop at the All Seasons RV Park & Campground store, just past Circle R Dr. Then north on Old Hwy 395 to Camino Del Rey.  Left on Camino Del Rey (under I-15) to a left on Old River Rd. (Extra miles and hills can be added, from the stop at the store, by going east on Circle R Dr. and left on West Lilac Rd and make the loop back across I-15 on West Lilac Rd to Camino Del Rey.  Then a right on Camino Del Rey to a left on Old River Rd.).  Continue on Old River Road to the bike and pedestrian crossing on the old bridge over the San Luis Rey River (just past the undercrossing to Hwy 76).  Turn left on Holly Lane to N. River Rd.  Left on N. River Rd. (west) to another left where N. River Rd. intersects with Vandergrift Blvd.  Then one long block to a left on College Blvd.  Just across the San Luis Rey River, turn right on the bike and pedestrian path along the south shore of the river.  West on the bike path to where it travels next to Hwy 76, then use Hwy 76 to go under I-5 to Coast Hwy.  Left on Coast Hwy to a right Surfrider Way, and then a left on Pacific St.  South on Pacific St. to a left on Cassidy St.  Then right on Broadway to a left on Eaton St.  Then right on Coast Hwy, that turns into Carlsbad Blvd.  Then just across the lagoon, bear left on State St. to Grand Ave. and left to Roosevelt St (50 miles without the extra loop).

1. Head southeast on Roosevelt St toward Carlsbad Village Dr - 459 ft
2. Turn right at Carlsbad Village Dr - 0.2 mi
3. Turn left at Carlsbad Blvd - 2.6 mi
4. Slight left at Palomar Airport Rd - 5.3 mi
5. Turn right at Melrose Dr - 2.1 mi
6. Turn right at Rancho Santa Fe Rd - 0.5 mi
7. Turn left at San Elijo Rd - 1.5 mi
8. Turn right at Elfin Forest Rd W - 2.8 mi
9. Continue on Harmony Grove Rd - 4.3 mi
10. Turn right to stay on Harmony Grove Rd - 0.4 mi
11. Turn right to stay on Harmony Grove Rd - 0.3 mi
12. Turn right at S Hale Ave - 0.4 mi
13. Turn left at Avenida Del Diablo - 0.4 mi
14. Turn right at Del Dios Hwy/W Valley Pkwy Continue to follow Del Dios Hwy - 8.1 mi
15. Continue on Paseo Delicias - 1.3 mi
16. Turn left at Via de la Valle - 1.5 mi
17. Turn right at Calzada Del Bosque - 0.6 mi
18. Turn left at Linea Del Cielo - 1.1 mi
19. Continue on Lomas Santa Fe Dr - 2.5 mi
20. Turn right at Old Hwy 101 - 6.7 mi
21. Continue on Carlsbad Blvd - 3.8 mi
22. Turn left at Shore Dr - 0.2 mi
23. Turn right at Carlsbad Blvd - 0.8 mi
24. Make a U-turn at Solamar Dr - 3.1 mi
25. Turn right at Grand Ave - 0.2 mi

The Celo Pacific Coastal Ride. Rolling out at 8:30AM, low to medium intensity.  Meet in the parking lot just south of Grand Ave & Roosevelt St in Carlsbad. North along the coast to the main entrance of Camp Pendleton.  You must have your CAMP PENDLETON BASE ID - you must have this special ID to get onto the base, and be wearing a helmet to ride on the base.  It is also important to ride single file on the base.  Proceed through the gate on Vandergrift Blvd to a left on Stuart Mesa Rd. (a signal).  Then north on Stuart Mesa Rd. to a left on Las Pulgas Rd.  Exit through the base gate and right on the access road to the base practice landing strip (at the parking area with a pedestrian & bike access gate).  North on the base road to a left that goes under the I5 Fwy.  Continue north, along the old coast hwy, through the pedestrian & bike gate at the south end of the San Onofre campground.  North through the campground, through the campground entrance/exit and continue past the San Onofre power station to a turn around at Basilone Rd.  The return ride is the reverse.

The Sleeping Indian Route. Download TCX or GPX File to use on your Garmin. Rolling out at 8:30AM.  Meet in the parking lot just south of Grand Ave & Roosevelt St in Carlsbad. Route goes up the coast and onto the Oceanside bike path inland to North River Rd. Left turn up Sleeping Indian Rd, right on Burma Rd, continue onto Olive Hill Rd. Left on Mission, right on Stage Coach Ln, right on Reche, left on Live Oak Park Rd. Climb up to right on Mission Rd. Down and onto old 395 to Right on Reche. Left on Green Canyon Rd. Right on Winter Haven Rd. Right on Mission, quick left back on Olive Hill Rd. Continue on Olive Hill Rd to Bonsall. Cross 76 and take Camino del Rey to 76, right on 76 to Oceanside bike path and back to the coast.

Also, on Saturday, The Swamis Ride rolls out at 7:50AM, high intensity. Leave from Revolution Bike Shop in Solana Beach. North on HWY101 to La Costa Av, right to El Camino Real, right (south) to Levante St. Left on Levante St until it again intersects La Costa Av.  Right on La Costa Av one block and turn left (north) on Rancho Santa Fe Rd, to San Elijo Rd and turn right. Then right on Elfin Forest that turns into Harmony Grove Rd. Continue on Harmony Grove Rd, (which makes a right turn at the intersection with Kauana Loa Dr, and another right turn at the intersection with Enterprise St) to a regroup at a small church on the right just before Hale Dr.  Then right on Hale Dr., to its end, and left on Avenida del Diablo.  Then right on Valley Parkway, that turns into Del Dios Hwy.  Del Dios Hwy then turns into Paseo Deliceas in Rancho Sante Fe. Then one of various routes back to the beach (sometimes includes “Stud Loop”), and then north back to Nytro.
